Gisborne is the main city of the Eastland region and a great place to explore surrounding areas from including Mt Hikurangi, The Pacific Coast Highway, Eastwood Hill Aboretum, Lake Waikarimoana, and Mahia Peninsula.
One of New Zealand’s sunniest cities it is a significant wine producing region and is renown for it’s excellent Chardonnay. With local wineries abound, numerous safe swimming and surfing beaches and beautiful gardens, Gisborne is a very pleasant place to visit.

Self Drive by road
From Auckland you can follow the Pacific Coast Highway around the East Cape and down to Gisborne. The trip is 630 km (391 miles) approx. 10 hours.
Alternatively travel Auckland to Gisborne, via the Waioeka Gorge and State Highway 2, the trip is 499 km (310 miles) approx 6 hours.
Gisborne to Napier is 215 km (134 miles) 3hours
Gisborne to Wellington is 538km (334 miles) 8 hours

Gisborne domestic airport is located 10 – 12 minutes drive from the city centre.
There are taxis and a shuttle service available.
Gisborne is the only airport servicing the Eastland area.
